Anesthesia care
An anesthesiologist with you, start to finish.
Your surgeon focuses on the operation. A specialist anesthesiologist focuses on you.
What the anesthesiologist does
- Reviews your health history before surgery and plans your anesthetic with you.
- Remains present throughout the procedure.
- Monitors breathing, heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen continuously.
- Adjusts your level of comfort, from local anesthesia alone to sedation or general anesthesia, according to your preference and safety.
- Responds to changing clinical needs and manages your recovery and discharge readiness.
Does sedation always mean no breathing tube?
No. A planned sedation approach does not guarantee that airway assistance or conversion to general anesthesia will never be needed.
Having an anesthesiologist present does not eliminate all risk. It means a specialist is dedicated to monitoring you and responding promptly.
