Pain control is a team sport (multimodal analgesia)
No single drug does it all. The best plans stack several small gentle ones.

Multimodal analgesia means using several different pain-control strategies together, each at a modest dose, instead of leaning on one strong drug. A 2022 review in aesthetic plastic surgery notes that poorly controlled pain has negative physiologic effects and can affect length of stay and satisfaction, and lays out opioid-sparing models for outpatient practices.
A typical plan layers: numbing the tissue directly, non-opioid medicines taken before and after, nerve blocks when they suit the operation, a calm environment, and clear instructions for the first days at home.
Why it feels better: each layer covers a different pain pathway, so no single layer has to be pushed hard.
Your anesthesiologist designs this plan with you before surgery, not on the way out of the door.
