Eyelid surgery: the quiet awake classic
Eyelid surgery under local anesthesia is one of the oldest awake aesthetic operations.

An 86-patient review of blepharoplasty done as office surgery under local anesthesia with oral medication reported no major complications. A mailed survey (83% returned) found the approach was well accepted and highly rated, and a strong majority said they would refer friends and family. Many patients unwilling to have blepharoplasty outside the office were willing to have it this way.
The authors recommended the technique for selected healthy patients.
Why it works: the area is small, the anatomy is superficial, and local anesthetic works well. It is a good example of matching the anesthetic to the operation, not the other way round.
