Under the muscle, still awake: a 300-patient series
Sub-muscular breast augmentation with tumescent anesthesia and conscious sedation, no conversions to general.
Procedures · 2 min read
From 2010 to 2017, an Italian team reported 300 patients having primary sub-muscular breast augmentation under tumescent local anesthesia and conscious sedation.
Highlights: about 740 mL of tumescent solution per breast; no signs of adrenaline or lidocaine toxicity; conversion to general anesthesia never required; all patients reported no pain or discomfort during the infiltration and surgery in the authors’ report; major complications 3.3% (4 hematomas and 6 seromas) and minor 6.0%.
Reading it carefully: it is one experienced team’s series, not a trial, and the “no pain” wording is the authors’ report. Your experience can differ. That is why we talk about comfort, not guarantees.
